Mahindra to Add Panoramic Sunroof and Level 2 ADAS to Scorpio N

Mahindra is gearing up to launch a feature-packed new variant of the Scorpio N, marking a bold step forward for the SUV segment in India. According to internal sources, the Scorpio N will soon be equipped with a panoramic sunroof and a full-featured Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). This marks the most significant update to the model since its launch in 2022.

While the company has not yet officially confirmed the specific launch date or pricing, expectations are high that the announcement could drop within weeks. Dealers are already signaling interest, and spy shots making the rounds further confirm the buzz.

What’s New in the Updated Scorpio N

Currently, the Scorpio N features a single-pane electric sunroof on its higher trims. The planned shift to a full-frame panoramic sunroof marks a meaningful upgrade – especially for SUV buyers looking for that open-sky experience that’s become popular in mid-to-premium vehicles.

But the real leap is in safety and tech: the inclusion of Level 2 ADAS.

Expected Features in the Level 2 ADAS Suite

Based on information from sources familiar with Mahindra’s plans, the new ADAS system in the Scorpio N may include:

  • Smart pilot assist
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • High beam assist

“These features are already part of the XUV700 package, so it does make sense to see them now trickle down to the Scorpio N,” a dealer source told us under the condition of anonymity.

What This Means for Buyers

For consumers, this is more than just a cosmetic refresh. It adds advanced features that are usually reserved for vehicles in a higher price bracket. It also helps Mahindra gain crucial ground in a competitive SUV market dominated by rivals offering semi-autonomous safety tech.

You might be wondering, is this just a gimmick to lure buyers? Hard to say. But if Mahindra keeps the pricing reasonable, this version of the Scorpio N could easily become one of the most feature-rich choices in its segment.

Powertrain and Transmission Options

In terms of mechanicals, there’s no shake-up expected. The refreshed variant will likely offer the same engine options as the existing lineup:

  1. 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine
  2. 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine

Both engine options will be available with a six-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Fans of rugged, off-road capabilities can also expect 4WD to be among the variant’s options.

How Will It Compare to Rivals?

This update puts the Scorpio N more squarely in competition with SUVs like the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and even its sibling, the Mahindra XUV700.

The inclusion of ADAS alone is set to shift the landscape. Among its segment rivals, only a handful offer similar safety tech — and most at significantly higher prices. And the panoramic sunroof? That’s icing for buyers who value a premium cabin experience.

Government’s Role in Driving ADAS Adoption

There’s been increasing political and regulatory pressure in India to improve vehicle safety standards. The government’s Bharat NCAP program encourages automakers to enhance safety offerings. Features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warnings could eventually become standard requirements.

The inclusion of Level 2 ADAS in more mainstream models like the Scorpio N might be a sign of what’s to come across the broader market.

So, When Can You Get One?

While Mahindra hasn’t given an official launch date or price, the timing seems imminent. Given the pace of new spy shots and dealer activity, we may see bookings open as early as next month.

The new variant will likely sit between the existing top-end Z8 and Z8L trims, or it could become a new flagship altogether. Either way, the pricing will dictate just how much of a game-changer this turns out to be for Mahindra.

What to Watch For

  • Will the final ADAS spec match what’s available in the XUV700?
  • How much will the premium for these features be?
  • Will other features like ventilated seats or 360-degree camera also be added?

There are still some open questions. But so far, this planned feature boost seems less like marketing noise and more like a genuine upgrade for the Scorpio N. It’s clear Mahindra is aiming to position this SUV as both rugged and tech-forward.

Stay tuned. We’ll update once prices and specifications are officially out.
