Revised School Hours Announced in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 20 – Schools across Kashmir will begin operating under new timing schedules starting tomorrow, June 21, 2025, as per a fresh directive from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK).

In an official order issued Thursday, the DSEK stated that all government and recognized private schools must adhere to the revised hours. The change applies to institutions both within and outside the Srinagar Municipal limits.

New School Timings by Location

  • Inside Srinagar Municipal Limits: 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM
  • Outside Srinagar & Other Districts: 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM

“The order/instructions shall be adhered to strictly by all the concerned institutions. Any deviation in this regard shall be viewed seriously,” stated the directive from the Directorate.

Why the Change?

No specific reason was cited in the order, but such changes are typically made in response to seasonal shifts in climate or practical considerations like daylight hours and student safety. With summer setting in, it’s possible the regional authorities are trying to adjust school hours to avoid peak heat times.

What It Means for Students and Parents

For parents, this means adjusting morning routines by at least half an hour. Transport services may also shift schedules accordingly. Schools are expected to send out individual circulars or messages to ensure the transition goes smoothly.

In classrooms, teachers and school staff could feel the impact most immediately. Earlier start times may demand quicker morning preparations, but the early dismissals might offer some relief from the afternoon heat.

Strict Compliance Expected

The DSEK appears serious about strict adherence. Warnings in the order clearly imply that any school not following the new schedule could face disciplinary action. It reflects the education department’s push for consistency across districts.

The full order has already been circulated on official channels, and schools have been asked to implement the change without delay.
